About Farallon Islands Whale Watching
The Farallon Islands, just 27 miles off San Francisco, lie amid the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, a food-rich marine ecosystem which attracts whales, dolphins, seals and seabirds each summer and fall, to feed and to breed.

Expert naturalists lead full-day whale watching cruises (see trip information, below) from San Francisco aboard motorized diesel vessels on Saturdays and Sundays and select Fridays from mid-May through November.

Frequently-spotted wildlife includes Humpback Whales, Blue Whales, Gray Whales, Risso’s Dolphins, Common Dolphins, Pacific White-sided Dolphins, Northern Right Whale Dolphins, California Sea Lions, Northern Fur Seals, Harbor Seals, Elephant Seals, Steller Sea Lions, and a wide variety of sea birds. Minke and killer whales are occassionally seen as well.
